The is the fifth time an American woman has been named FIFA Women’s Player of the Year, following Abby Wambach in 2012, Mia Hamm in 2001 and 2002, and Lloyd in 2015.

Germany coach Silvia Neid, who led her country to an Olympic gold medal, was named Best Women’s Coach. Pia Sundhage of Sweden, and last year’s winner Jill Ellis of the United States were the runners-up.
